The Parts of Your Quilt

The Shirts
As the name suggests, a T-shirt quilt made up of T-shirts! Whether they are from your sports team, summer camp, or favorite band, these shirts come together into a quilt to last a lifetime.
The Front Fabric
A classic T-shirt quilt design includes strips of fabric in between each T-shirt. You may choose your favorite color for this fabric, or a color that coordinates with your shirts. Printed fabrics are also an option!
The Backing Fabric
The backing fabric is what you see on the reverse side of the quilt. It can be the same color as the front fabric, or it can be a contrasting color (a great way to show off your school spirit!)
The Batting
If a quilt were a sandwich, the batting would be the peanut butter and jelly. It’s what gives the final quilt thickness and allows for the stitching across the surface.
The Thread
When it comes to thread, the two main options are a thread that blends in or one that stands out against the fabric. It all depends on whether you want the quilting stitches to “pop” or provide a more subtle texture.
The Quilting
The quilting is what holds the front fabric, batting, and backing fabric all together as one single quilt. There are many quilting designs available, ranging from squiggly lines to hearts to swirls and more.
